Colossians 1:15-17 (ESV) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. This passage speaks of Jesus, the Christ. This passage calls Jesus the firstborn of all creation. Then it says that by Him all things were created. The term firstborn here does not mean the same as first born. Genesis tells us that Esau sold his rights as firstborn to Jacob for a bowl of stew. It was a term that gave that person preeminence. Ownership. Is Jesus preeminent over all creation? Yes He is. And we should give Him the rights over our lives. Unlike Esau, if we sell our rights of firstborn to Jesus, we will not regret it later. We need to give Him control. Become truly submissive to His leadership. Thank You, Jesus for rescuing me. Thank You that I don’t have to go through this life without You. Most importantly, thank You for the promise of eternal life through and with You!
