Psalm 4:1-8 (ESV)
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer! O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!” You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
With all the wildfires and violence in the world, it is good to pause and ponder the greatness of God. He is the one Who saves. It is He who created and sustains all the universe. We do live in a fallen world, and there is no guarantee that we will be protected from all the evil, but He does promise that we will be in His care.
Let us pray for those affected by the violence and the wildfires. Let us also pray for those who have lost loved ones recently. Life can be difficult, but God has us in His care. May God bring comfort and peace to all who trust Him, regardless of physical circumstances. For those who do not know and trust God, may these circumstances bring them to repentance and to know Him.
David always trusted God. Even when things looked bleak, he tried to surround himself with other godly men, and strong warriors. David knew that God had his back. Even though others suggested that he attack Saul, he refused to attack God’s Anointed.
Let us pray for wisdom on how to deal with difficult people and circumstances in this life. Let us continue to trust and rely upon God our Father.
