~Struggles, what struggles? by Ken Edgerly~ Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Vs.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. These verses are ones I go to often if not daily. When I have struggles with someone or with something I've read about in the news. I think, if only that person or situation could be removed, things would be so much better. This verse reminds me, though, that my struggle is not with people but from a much higher source. My struggles are coming from authorities and powers of this dark world and special forces of evil in the heavenly realm, or Satan, someone I could never win against, someone stronger smarter and craftier than I will ever be. The great news is that Jesus has authority above and over all principalities and powers of this dark world . So then I sometimes catch myself asking the question, if that is so why does God allow this to continue on. 1 Corinthians 15:24 says right now God has a purpose for what is going on and when that purpose is fulfilled all dominion and authority will come to an end. In the meantime we have protection from struggles with what Paul refers to as the full armor of God. We need to put it on daily so we can take a stand against the devil's schemes. There are things we can and should do in our times of struggle. Col. 2:15 tells us Jesus disarmed principalities and powers at the cross. Our victory is rooted in what Jesus did, though, and not what we do. Our doing is only an application of what Jesus did. So, not that there is anything going on right now but if there ever is we know that we can have victory in our struggles, Eph 6:14-18, Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. May God's peace and joy be with you Ken
